Seven LISGIS Staff Earn Master’s Degrees in Demography from University of Dar es Salaam
Seven staff members of the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) have graduated with Master of Arts degrees in Demography from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania, following their participation in the institution’s staff scholarship and capacity-building program.
The seven staff members began their studies in Tanzania on November 15, 2024, under a staff scholarship initiative supported through the Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West Africa (HISWA) initiative. They successfully completed their Master of Arts in Demography programs and graduated on May 25, 2026.
The graduates are:
1. Princess P. Dabieh
2. Patrick M. Wreh
3. Telkie Carbisy
4. George Yarwoah
5. Sam Darwah
6. Sielay Dorleh
7. Roland Yengbeh
The achievement represents an important investment in strengthening the technical capacity of Liberia's national statistical system. Training in demography equips statistical professionals with advanced skills in population analysis, demographic trends, migration, fertility, mortality, and population-based research, areas that are essential to planning and development.
LISGIS leadership welcomed the graduates' achievement, noting that strengthening staff expertise is central to improving the quality and use of official statistics in Liberia.
The newly qualified professionals are expected to apply their knowledge and skills to support data production, demographic analysis, evidence-based policymaking, and national development planning.
The graduates' achievement also highlights the value of institutional investment in professional development and regional academic partnerships in building a stronger and more technically capable statistical workforce.
