LISGIS Strengthens Staff Capacity in Financial Management and Procurement
The Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) has launched a series of internal capacity-building trainings to strengthen staff skills, accountability, and operational efficiency across key areas of the institution.
The first training session, focused on Financial Management and Procurement, was held on October 30, 2025, at LISGIS headquarters and brought together staff from various departments.
Facilitated by experts from the Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West Africa (HISWA) Project Implementation Unit, the session focused on strengthening staff understanding of financial management and procurement procedures that support effective and accountable institutional operations.
Key areas covered included budgeting, expenditure tracking, procurement planning, financial controls, fraud prevention, and risk management. Through discussions and practical exercises, participants examined how proper financial and procurement practices can improve project implementation and strengthen the management of institutional resources.
In her opening remarks, Deputy Director General Hon. Mariah Q. Gilayeneh emphasized that staff development is an important component of LISGIS's broader efforts to strengthen institutional performance.
“This training is not just a requirement; it is an investment in the integrity and sustainability of our operations.”
Participants also highlighted the practical value of the training, particularly its relevance to their day-to-day responsibilities and the management of institutional resources.
The financial management and procurement session is the first in a planned series of internal capacity-building activities covering areas such as information and communication technology (ICT) and monitoring and evaluation.
The initiative underscores LISGIS's commitment to developing a skilled, accountable, and efficient workforce capable of supporting the institution's mandate to produce and disseminate reliable, timely, and transparent official statistics and geospatial information for evidence-based decision-making in Liberia.
