LISGIS, LNTA Partner to Strengthen Tourism Statistics and Measure Sector’s Economic Impact
Signed on May 26, 2026, in Monrovia, the agreement provides a framework for LISGIS and LNTA to work together in producing reliable, internationally comparable statistics on Liberia’s tourism sector.
The Tourism Satellite Account will help provide a clearer picture of tourism’s contribution to key areas of the economy, including gross domestic product (GDP), employment, investment, and government revenue. The initiative will also support evidence-based policies and investment decisions by giving policymakers and stakeholders a more comprehensive understanding of the sector.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, LISGIS Director General Hon. Richard Fatorma Ngafuan welcomed the collaboration and commended the technical teams involved in advancing the initiative. He noted the importance of strengthening systems to track tourism activity and produce the statistical information needed to support the sector.
LNTA Director General Princess Eva Cooper expressed appreciation for LISGIS's partnership, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in advancing Liberia's tourism agenda. LISGIS Deputy Director General Dogba K. Norris noted that the initiative provides a foundation for evidence-based tourism policy and planning.
The TSA-TWG will support the production and coordination of tourism statistics in line with internationally recognized statistical standards, providing Liberia with stronger evidence for planning, monitoring, and evaluating tourism development.
